When the dark evenings linger, there’s nothing quite like the comfort of curling up with a good winter read. Slow-paced days invite us to settle in by the fire and escape into other worlds. And now, as we find ourselves in the last full month of winter, it’s the perfect time to dive deep into the season and make the most of those quiet, book-filled moments before spring arrives.
So, grab your warmest blanket, a steaming mug of hot chocolate, and let’s explore some captivating winter reads that will transport you to faraway lands, spark your imagination, or simply provide the perfect escape from the freezing weather outside.
I’m sharing my February TBR – the books I’m most excited to delve into before this winter ends – and I’d love to hear what you’re reading too!

Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao
Water Moon promises a captivating blend of history, myth, and romance, and I’m eager to dive into its pages. The premise, weaving together ancient Filipino folklore with a contemporary love story, sounds utterly enchanting. I’m always drawn to stories that explore cultural heritage and family secrets, and I have a feeling this one will be a beautifully immersive experience.
I’ve heard it’s full of lush prose and evocative imagery, which is exactly what I crave in a winter read. The promise of discovering a hidden world within our own, alongside characters grappling with love and identity, makes this a perfect addition to my February TBR. I can already imagine losing myself in its magic.

Self-Care for Winter by Suzy Reading
As the days remain short and the weather chilly, looking after our wellbeing becomes more important than ever. Suzy Reading’s “Self-Care for Winter” has been on my bedside table for a couple of months now and I’ve already been dipping into it all season.
It’s a gorgeous guide to navigating winter months with warmth and intention. So many useful tips and techniques for nurturing both body and mind. Suzy offers down-to-earth advice for awe-hunting and incorporating mindful practices into our routines throughout the season – I also love the beautiful illustrations which make this book a joy to devour.

The Wood at Midwinter by Susanna Clarke
Susanna Clarke has a way of crafting worlds that feel both familiar and fantastical, and I’m incredibly excited to return to her unique brand of storytelling with “The Wood at Midwinter.” The title itself evokes a sense of mystery and enchantment, perfectly suited to a winter read. I’m anticipating another journey into a realm filled with magic and wonder plus this is a nice, compact novella size.
The idea of a story unfolding amidst the depths of winter, within a mysterious wood, exploring themes of folklore and the power of nature has me hooked already. I’m ready to be transported to another world and lose myself in Clarke’s intricate narrative.

North Woods by Daniel Mason
Daniel Mason’s “North Woods” has been on my radar for a while, and I’m finally making time for it this winter. The multi-generational narrative, spanning centuries within the same patch of New England woodland, sounds utterly fascinating. I’m drawn to stories that explore the interconnectedness of time and place, and I have a feeling this one will be a profound read.
The themes of nature, family, and the passage of time resonate deeply with me. I’m eager to delve into the lives of the characters who have inhabited this particular piece of land and discover the secrets that lie hidden beneath the trees. This feels like the perfect book to curl up with on a cold winter’s night, I might download the audiobook too so I can listen in the car as well.

The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer
Robin Wall Kimmerer’s writing is always so insightful and thought-provoking, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with her in “The Serviceberry.” Her ability to weave together scientific knowledge with indigenous wisdom is incredible, and I always come away from her books with a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Kimmerer’s perspective on the relationship between humans and nature is both inspiring and transformative, and I’m anticipating another beautiful read. This book feels like a gentle reminder of the beauty and resilience of the natural world, which feels so needed now in the depths of winter. This is another compact, short read and I’ll definitely be gifting it onwards after I finish – in the spirit of a gift economy.

What a great roundup! The covers are gorgeous on all of these books. February is one of my favorite months; I’ve been reading romcoms and a few nonfiction. Happy reading!
